Page Created!

Do you see the word "Home" and the greyed-out title at the top of the blog? Click on the title, and you go to a "page." this is where you can copy Word web-pages in essentially complete format with links! Then simply click on "Home" to come back to the blog!

23 Things Report: 1. Origins -- A Word Document as a Blog

I spent a little time this morning googling the concept of "23Things." Fascinating. Wrote up my results in a Word Document and then chwecked my options for posting it. Pasting it -- lose the nice header. turn it into a .jpg picture -- lose the hyperlinks. So for the moment, I'll do both. the paste -- much more readable -- is below:

Will this report be a blog within a blog? I’ll add to the document from time to time, and then upload it to the 23 Things blog … or maybve turn it into a separate blog.

I. Origins

http://plcmcl2-about.blogspot.com/ This site, belonging to the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklinburg County (sic) in North Carolina: http://www.plcmc.org/ claims the original Learning 2.0 program. It has a list of other libraries that have adopted the program.

“Welcome to the original Learning 2.0 Program. This site was created to support PLCMC's Learning 2.0 Program; a discovery learning program designed to encourage staff to explore new technologies and reward them for doing 23 Things. Since the program's launched, it has fostered Learning 2.0 programs all over the world. If you are interested in duplicating or modifying this program for your organization, please see Program Notes on About Page and contact Helene Blowers for information.”

Michael Stevens reported the site in the ALA Tech Source on August 15, 2006 along with innovative 2006 projects at other libraries. A worthwhile read. The project was designed by Helen Blowers, PLCMCL Tech Director: her del.ici.ous bookmark list contains several references to the VCCS project.

6/3/2010: I’m going to stop here because I have already learned too many great new things. (How to make a fancy header Word 7; del.ici.ous; ALATechSource; ImaginOn: the Joe and Joan Martin Center, etc. etc). If I add more today, I’ll be completely distracted. Oh the joy of AADHD!

Week 1: Getting started, at last!

Hello everyone!

I'm completely green at this social media and Web 2 world, so am seeking active collaboration with my colleagues in IS&D and LRS and our volunteers to get as far as possible through the summer. So far, the exercise in creativity and problem solving has been most enjoyable, both virtually and in reality. We are doing our first blog!

Written by Van Robertson -- in collaboration with Olivia Gonzalez.

Step 1

Hello from IS&D and volunteers,

Led by multimedia coach, Van Robertson, we will be attempting to complete VCCS' list of "23 Things" to do. The department and volunteers will be collaborating in all their experiences with this project on this blog. Already, just creating this blog has been a challenge, so who knows what we are in store for. We are looking forward to this project as a tool to learn new ways to communicate online.
